Why TIER

Postsecondary readiness (college and career readiness) is the primary goal of the public education system and should be its organizing principle. In the last century, economic growth was fueled by natural resources, cheap labor, and technological innovation.  The United States had these resources in abundance and this allowed America to dominate the competition.  We begin this century in a considerably different position.  Intellectual capital is the new “gold standard” and we must truly transform an outdated education system to remain competitive.

With the commitment of a statewide coalition of educators, administrators, and legislative and business leaders, Texas has led the nation in public education reform over the past twenty years and has served as a model for other states as well as the nation in the advancement of standards and accountability in education.

However, there is still much to be done in Texas and many challenges to overcome that will require a new dedication and a political resolve to challenge entrenched institutions and long-held beliefs. Texas needs a comprehensive, long-term agenda that sets our sights on the level of education that Texans demand to compete successfully nationally and internationally. The need is urgent. TIER is ready for the challenge.
